On Friday afternoon, our U-9 boys football team travelled to Niton Primary for our second league match of the season. Unfortunately, we went 1-0 down in the opening stages of the game after Niton scored from a corner but we fought back well creating several half chances after good tackling. At half-time we spoke about passing the ball more and getting shots away. The boys responded well to these instructions as we worked hard to win the ball before getting the ball on the flo...or to create chances. After having 90% possession, we created some superb chances after some flowing passing with Stan's shot going centimeters over the bar, Corey and Jimmy hitting the post, Niton's goalkeeper saving two one on one chances and Finley slipping at the vital moment as he went through on goal before Jimmy's shot was hacked off the line as Niton desperately held on for a 1-0 win. Mr Collings and Mrs Townend both felt very sorry for the boys as they were desperately unlucky not to have won the match comfortably by a few goals, especially after such a good second half performance. However, well done to the Niton defence and goalkeeper for their match winning performance in the second half. Mr Collings is confident that if the boys can play again in their next match like they did in the second half then they will get the win they deserve. Well done boys!

This time next week you will be in your new classrooms for the first day back and we are so looking forward to seeing you all! We have some super news to start the year! After sending in the application at the start of the summer holidays, we have just received confirmation that we have been awarded the Gold Level School Games Mark for 2017-18! Only around 30 schools received the Gold Level last year, out of hundreds of schools in Hampshire, which means we are now one of the best Primary Schools for PE & Sport in Hampshire and the Island! We are absolutely delighted! We have been on a 3-year journey, having held the Bronze and Silver Level School Games Mark for the two years. This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Mr Collings and his PE team organising and developing PE and sport through special assemblies, visiting athletes, and an improved range of clubs and activities both from staff in school and outside clubs coming in. It would also not have been possible without a dedicated team of parents transporting children to fixtures, picking them up from clubs and cheering us on – so thank you all! This is not enough for us – we want to do more! We know we need to offer more sports clubs to our Key Stage 1 children and we want to widen our range of activities. I am delighted that Miss Gemma Waters, a qualified Gymnastics teacher, is registering Broadlea as a British Gymnastics Partner school and will be putting her skills to good use this year. Mr Tom Speer, our new Year 5 teacher is also a hockey specialist but I think we will let him get settled in the classroom first! :D Mrs Chambers has been involved in dance and is a ski instructor ... we do not have any plans to buy a ski slope but after the success of Isle Dance last year I am sure there will be more dance and drama opportunities this year ... exciting times! We will continue to use Fitter Futures and Golden Mile to supplement our PE lessons and will relaunch these with the children next week. We hope you enjoy the last few days of the holiday – see you soon! :)
